Church In The Wild

Things are about to change for me in big ways. I’m leaving one of the largest churches in America to go and plant a church from the ground up. It is exciting, scary, and everything in between.

This past week I was in OKC, where we are going to plant, and we got 7 people to commit to being a part of our church! We also might have found a possible location to start in! And while it might not seem like much because of where I’m coming from, I am so excited because it’s a start! It has begun! This is the beginning! The scripture that has been rolling around in my mind is, Zechariah 4:10 (NLT) “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” The work has begun.

Zerubbabel was a leader from the tribe of Judah and a descendant of David. He was involved with the rebuilding of the Temple, and it had to start somewhere. It started with small beginnings and God rejoiced to see the work begin. God was with Zerubbabel from those small beginnings all the way to completion.

These beginnings are going to be small. It’s not going to be like what I am used to. It is going to be “Church In The Wild.” No big bells and whistles, just Jesus. But what I know is God will take these humble beginnings all the way to completion. God is rejoicing in the work we have started. I know we will experience setbacks over the next few years, but I know God did not bring us here to abandon us. He will finish what we start.

I won’t overestimate what we can accomplish in this first year, but I won’t underestimate what God can do with these small beginnings if we remain faithful over the next 2, 5, 10, or 20 years. Then I will be able to look back on when it all began and thank God for all He has done.
